Your Luxury

Some of the best of New Zealand’s GOLF can be found right here in and around Great Lake Taupo.

New Zealand enjoys an oasis of world-class golf courses. With its natural beauty, unique wildlife, mountains and volcanic areas you might believe that New Zealand was formed with golf in mind.  An absolute must for those who love to travel and play golf.

My appreciation of New Zealand golf on offer was not immediate.  Like most kids, I took for granted my surroundings, both from a physical and social sense.  That golf was relatively inexpensive and accessible activity was just normal; and that the many courses that were available to play occupied such stunning surroundings was likewise just ‘just the  way it was’.  Greg Turner

Topography of the north island has produced distinctive land-forms with volcanoes both active and inactive.  Some courses (Rotorua) even have steam and mud pools forming a very unusual hazard!

Significant investment in some of the most stunning locations has produced golf of a truly international standard accompanied by the type of facilities and d service you would expect in the most exclusive locations.

The Taupo region offers a group of courses that range from the friendly to the more exclusive championship layouts.  However, the majority of courses are member-run and brilliant value for money.  Seldom will you have to wait for the tee to clear and you will be welcomed into the clubhouse to share a beer with locals after your round of golf.

Many find sanctuary on a golf course but it is rare to find a golf course that is a sanctuary, New Zealand’s Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary is thought to have scored a world first! The ecological restoration is the first of its kind in New Zealand and was prompted by golf course owner Gary Lane’s desire to create a unique environment where golf and the natural habitat work in harmony. Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary is situated in the Wairakei Tourist Park which is an extraordinary geothermal area just north of Taupo township. Cultural experiences, bubbling mud and hot pools are a major attraction for visitors to the Taupo region, and Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary is one of the most popular golfing destinations in New Zealand.

Set amongst a fully fenced nature reserve close to the tourism centre of Taupo.  First class facilities set in abundant native and exotic forest, the course offers internationally rated golf in serene surroundings, with the predator proof fencing delivering a wildlife as well as golf related experience.  Fallow deer, bird life including pheasants, guinea fowl, Peking ducks and kiwi, are all free to roam around the course.
